Sunstone: Volume 1-4 by Stjepan Šejić

So, as you will shortly find out, I have been reading Sunstone since I stumbled across Stjepan Sejic's DeviantArt page. So, like, years. I didn't really feel like I had the disposable income to purchase Sunstone when it originally came out, so I just kinda stuck in on a wishlist so I wouldn't forget to purchase it at some point.

Cut to two years ago when I semi-jokingly sent a link to my boyfriend when he asked what I wanted for Christmas. Volume 1 was one of the things he decided to buy me. Now that I had a physical copy of Volume 1, Sunstone went on my "To Read Physical" List.

Cut to now... I have finally purchased all of Sunstone that is currently out and will be reviewing them as I read. That said, these reviews are all pretty short and I've been devouring these things again... so you get multiple reviews in a post.

Enjoy.

Sunstone, Vol. 1

Volume 1

2022 Review: I love Sunstone. Have loved it ever since I stumbled across Sejic’s DeviantArt page. I have nothing insightful to say. The art is beautiful and the story is great.

2024 Review: This time around, I really resonated with Ally’s loneliness. I remember living alone and loving it but occasionally that empty house thing just hits and… yeah.

Still holds up really well and I can’t wait to dive back into the rest.

Sunstone, Vol. 2

Volume 2

Sejic has Ally try and enjoy pineapple on pizza. Not integral to the story, but needed to point that out. Pineapple on pizza is tasty.

On a more serious story note, I had not remembered the whole Marion thing coming into it so early… or at least it feels early to me now. I cannot imagine being so close and trusting someone so much so fast as Lisa and Ally do/did.

I did like the author’s note at the end about the evolution of his artwork. I barely remember when I was first reading this in webcomic form, but seeing the images of the changes is definitely enlightening.

Sunstone, Vol. 3

Volume 3

I love Ally and Alan’s dynamic. They’re, like, bestie goals. I quite like Anne, too. Her inquisitiveness feels very real. I am also very much enjoying the building of Ally and Lisa’s relationship outside of their BDSM play. It’s cute.

I feel so SEEN by the snoring scene (Only one page, I know, but it's SO REAL). Lisa needs to learn to start punching Ally’s pillow. I’m cackling.

Sunstone, Vol. 4

Volume 4

Rereading this is equal parts awesome and semi-heart wrenching. It is made very clear throughout that things will ultimately be okay, so some of that tension is quite quickly diffused, but yeah… the tension is definitely there. I feel like it’s very well done as well.
