2025 In Books

So basically the only rule for this list is that I had to read or finish the books in 2025. Everything else is my opinion. Of course, if you're interested in my deeper thoughts on these books, check out my reviews.

Number of times I smashed my Reading Goal: 1 time

Number of Books Read: 71 read, bringing my lifetime total to 1,148 books

Number of Pages: 26,648

Shortest Book: Aboard the RMS Aquitania by Ben Aaronovitch - 5 pages, barely a short story

Longest Book: The Shapeshifters by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes - 968 pages

Average Book Length: 375 Pages

Favorite New Read: A House Between Sea and Sky by Beth Cato - Really interesting, mostly cozy fantasy.

Favorite Reread: The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey - The copy I have is an anthology of the first 3 books in the overall Pern series, which I just adore.

Favorite Non-Fiction: I did not read any non-fiction this year.

Favorite Series: InCryptid by Seanan McGuire. Finished off that series this year. It's just a really fun series, you guys.

Favorite Author: Seanan McGuire - This hasn't changed since last year, even though I didn't read a lot from her this year... again.

Most Read Author: Laurell K. Hamilton - Been going through the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series, which ended up being more books than the Pern series by 6 books! I'm not even close to done with it yet!

Least Favorite Book: Token of Darkness by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes - I didn't like it the first time and rereading did not change that.

Most Disappointing Read: Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan - I really wanted to like the books, ya'll. I really did. I probably would have if I'd read them when I was younger but... Percy Jackson just wasn't for me.

DNF Pile: Dragon's Code by Gigi McCaffrey & The Big Meow by Diane Duane

Favorite New-to-Me Character: Leah from The Prince of Nowhere by Emily Drake. She was such a fun character I wish had been in a better book.

Favorite Reread Character: Nathaniel Graison from Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter by Laurell K. Hamilton - Nathaniel is the sweetest cinnamon roll of a man, despite his horrible unbringing. I would protect him with my life.

Currently Reading: Acorna's Quest by Anne McCaffrey & Margaret Ball, The Masquerades of Spring by Ben Aaronovitch and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: Illustrated Edition by J.K. Rowling, Illustrated by Jim Kay & Neil Packer

Finished Series: I finished 7 series this year.

Non-Book Stuff

I just wanted to brag that I finished 15 OviPets projects this year. I had several projects that were 1 or 2 traits with tattoos involved. Gotta love them Slime projects. Heh.

I also finished 2 full Pokedexes this year in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet. I'm proud of myself. 😁

2024 In Books

So basically the only rule for this list is that I had to read or finish the books in 2024. Everything else is my opinion. Of course, if you're interested in my deeper thoughts on these books, check out my reviews.

Number of times I smashed my Reading Goal: 4

Number of Books Read: 130, bringing my lifetime total to 1108

Number of Pages: 46,121

Shortest Book: The Creature in the Case by Garth Nix - 109 pages

Longest Book: The Heretic's Guide to Homecoming: Book Two: Practice by Sienna Tristen - 873 pages

Average Book Length: 357 Pages

Favorite New Read: Mislaid in Parts Half-Known by Seanan McGuire - Another awesome entry into the Wayward Children Series.

Favorite Reread: Sunstone by Stjepan Sejic - Adult Comic Series I started reading via DeviantArt and had been following ever since.

Favorite Non-Fiction: Welsh Fairies by Mhara Sterling - A nice intro to Welsh folklore and, funnily enough, a good companion to Kelley Armstrong's Cainsville series, which I also read this year.

Favorite Series: Valdemar by Mercedes Lackey - I've been in love with this series ever since college, when I actually got into it.

Favorite Author: Seanan McGuire - This hasn't changed since last year, even though I didn't read a lot from her this year.

Most Read Author: Mercedes Lackey - I read most of the Valdemar series this year, including anthologies, so Lackey beat every other author by a long-shot.

Least Favorite Book: Doubletake by Rob Thurman - This is where I completely fell off the Cal Leandros series, which is sad because I had been looking forward to finishing the series, based on my earlier reads of the first few books.

Most Disappointing Read: Calling on Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede - Just not all it was cracked up to be.

DNF Pile: Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft and Lenny Among Ghosts by Frank Maria Reifenberg - One was just confusingly boring and the other's writing style did not mesh with my brain.

Favorite New-to-Me Character: Sunny Cho from Nine Tailed by Jayci Lee. I was pleasantly surprised by Nine Tailed in general, but part of that enjoyment definitely came from Sunny.

Favorite Reread Character: Two again this year: Ally Carter from Sunstone and Princess/Queen Cimorene from The Enchanted Forest Chronicles.

Currently Reading: A Gift of Dragons by Anne McCaffrey, The Masterharper of Pern by Anne McCaffrey, and Call of the Bone Ships by R.J. Barker.

Finished Series: I finished 17 series this year.

Non-Book Stuff

I just wanted to brag that I finished 11 OviPets projects this year. I probably could have done a lot more, but OviPets is really just a chill game for me so... yeah.

2023 In Books

So basically the only rule for this list is that I had to read or finish the books in 2023. Everything else is my opinion. Of course, if you're interested in my deeper thoughts on these books, check out my reviews.

Number of times I smashed my Reading Goal: 4

Number of Books Read: 116, bringing my lifetime total to 1,017

Number of Pages: 33,646

Shortest Book: IM by Seanan McGuire - 11 Pages

Longest Book: Shadow's Bane by Karen Chance - 616 Pages

Average Book Length: 290 Pages

Favorite New Read: That Ain't Witchcraft by Seanan McGuire - I love, love, love Antimony and her found family group, which this book contains quite a lot of. It's great.

Favorite Reread: Arrows of the Queen by Mercedes Lackey - I hadn't remembered a lot of this book, but I very much enjoyed getting reacquainted with Talia.

Favorite Non-Fiction: No Non-Fiction this year. Closest thing was Enchantress of Numbers, which was Historical Fiction about Ada Lovelace... and a DNF.

Favorite Series: InCryptid by Seanan McGuire - I'm pretty much in love with Seanan's work. This series is just so delightful and ever-changing in ways I really love.

Favorite Author: Seanan McGuire -Definitely in love with her work. It's fantastic and she seems like a fantastic human so... yeah.

Most Read Author: Seanan McGuire - basically by virtue of having a BUNCH of short stories that filled out the InCryptid series that each counted as their own book. I read 37 Seanan McGuire books this year.

Least Favorite Book: Closer to the Heart by Mercedes Lackey - Apparently I did have fun reading this, but the Herald Spy series just wasn't that great and this was my least favorite of them.

Most Disappointing Read: Slay by Laurell K. Hamilton - I've been reading the Anita Blake novels since I was a teenager and Slay is the 30th anniversary, 30th book in the series and it just did not live up to the hype.

DNF Pile: Time's Fool by Karen Chance and Enchantress of Numbers by Jennifer Chiaverini - One I was just very over and the other just turned out to be a slog.

Favorite New-to-Me Character: Fern Conway from InCryptid by Seanan McGuire. Fern is a cryptid cinnamon roll and I love her just so, so much.

Favorite Reread Character: I have two this year: Sirius Black from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Istas Yukimura from InCryptid - Sirius is a perennial fave, at least in this book. The man has his flaws, lets not lie, but I really like him as a character. Istas is just the best. No notes.

Currently Reading: The Realms of the Gods by Tamora Pierce, Winds of Fate by Mercedes Lackey, Valdemar by Mercedes Lackey, Tortall and Other Lands by Tamora Pierce, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling, aaaaand technically a bunch of Valdemar short story compilations... a total of 21 books.

May your 2024 by happy and bright. May you have only good books to read. See you in my next post... whenever that is. 😅

2022 In Books

So basically the only rule for this list is that I had to read or finish the books in 2022. Everything else is my opinion. Of course, if you're interested in my deeper thoughts on these books, check out my reviews.

Number of times I smashed my Reading Goal: 3

Number of Books Read: 102, bringing my total number of books to 940 over my lifetime (that I’ve remembered)

Number of Pages: 32,474

Shortest Book: Recruit by Kelley Armstrong - 5 Pages

Longest Book: Victoria The Queen: An Intimate Biography of the Woman Who Ruled an Empire by Julia Baird - 770 Pages

Average Book Length: 319 Pages

Favorite New Read: You Are Home by Catana Chetwynd - Such a sweet collection of Ms. Chetwynd's comics. Loved it so very much. Just gotta find somewhere to put those stickers...

Favorite Reread: The Forever King by Molly Chochran and Warren Murphy - Pretty much my favorite book ever, so it's unsurprising this was my favorite reread.

Favorite Non-Fiction: Beneath the Surface: Killer Whales, SeaWorld, and the Truth Beyond Blackfish by John Hargrove - I've always been interested in orcas and semi-recently interested in the welfare of orcas in SeaWorld and other parks, so this was kind of a natural like for me. It's also interesting to get some behind-the-scenes stuff that the public doesn't normally get about training orcas.

Favorite Series: Women of the Otherworld/The Otherworld. I really loved rereading this series, especially with the added shorts and novellas. I really recommend reading the series that way, it really enriches the overall story.

Favorite Author: Seanen McGuire - Only read one book by Ms. McGuire this year, but I love her work so... yeah.

Most Read Author: Kelley Armstrong - Due to how I did my reading list, of course I read a good chunk by Ms. Amrstrong. Got through four of her series this year.

Least Favorite Book: Rose Daughter by Robin Mckinley. This was just a weird retelling of Beauty and the Beast that had nothing to say about the original or itself, really. Rose Daughter was a slog.

Most Disappointing Read: The Third Magic by Molly Cochran - A seriously disappointing end to a trilogy that just started out so very strong. I love The Forever King, but The Third Magic just dropped the ball in terms of a) making this a trilogy and b) the story in general.

DNF Pile: Enchantress by James Maxwell - Well, this year it's not really a pile, but yeah. Dropped Enchantress pretty quickly (quarter of the way in). It was just bad.

Favorite New-to-Me Character: Hulda Larkin from Keeper of Enchanted Rooms by Charlie H. Holmberg. I mentioned in my review that I would like to be Hulda when I grow up and I stick by that assertion. She's pretty awesome.

Favorite Reread Character: Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K.Rowling. Squeaking by with a last-minute finish this year was my (and Mugglecast's) reread of Sorcerer's Stone. Hermione is my favorite Wizarding World character who actually appears in this book. I could technically give this award to one Sirius Black, but as he's only mentioned in passing, it seemed unfair.

Currently Reading: The White Gryphon by Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling, Tempt the Stars by Karen Chance

May your 2023 by happy and bright. May you have only good books to read. See you in my next post... whenever that is. 😅
